Hypnotherapy is routinely used at Stanford and Harvard University and at the Medical Center University of California, Los Angeles; Kaiser Permanente, University of Washington Harborview Burn Center and the National Institutes for Health for various medical issues including, addictions, pain relief, weight loss and smoking cessation.


The American Medical Association, British Medical Association and National Institutes of Health approve hypnosis for clinical use. Clinical studies demonstrate how through the use of hypnosis one can release unwanted weight.

  • In a meta-analysis, comparing results of adding hypnotherapy to weight loss treatment, multiple studies showed that hypnosis increased weight loss. The average loss was 97% during treatment. More importantly, hypnosis increased the effectiveness of POST TREATMENT by over 146%. These results demonstrate that hypnosis works better over time. (Allison, David B.; Faith, Myles S(1996).   • The 60 females were split into hypnotherapy and non-hypnosis groups, with both groups being given weight loss behavioral treatments and counseling. The group using hypnosis lost an average of 17 pounds at the 2 month follow up, while the group not using hypnosis only lost about 0.5 pounds at the 2 month follow-up. This study also suggests that “hypnotizability” and social and educational backgrounds has no effect on results. (Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology, 54: 489-492).

  • A study was done between two weight management groups for a total of nine weeks. One group uses hypnosis and one did not use hypnosis), the hypnosis group that used hypnosis continued to get results in the two-year follow-up.  The non-hypnosis group showed no further results. (Journal of Clinical Psychology 1985).
